49 Introduction to Vibration Analysis w/ Jason Tranter Part 2

Jason Tranter head and body shot 2016This episode of the rooted in reliability podcast provides an introduction to the vibration and vibration analysis with Jason Tranter. There are a lot of failures that occur in the machinery of an organization just because their condition monitoring processes are not very good. Most of all, the technicians who are assigned these tasks related to the condition-based maintenance of the rotating machines either don t have enough knowledge or they are not doing it correctly. And because of that not only the budget of the facilities suffer but also the reliability programs are affected by these failures at a great level.

These failures are eliminated by using a technique of proper vibration analysis that helps you to identify and understand different failure modes, handle these using suitable methods, and provide those powerful insights to learn about the condition of the rotating machines. Now, you don t need to have the complete or standards professional certification to do this. You just need enough knowledge so that you can do your job correctly by understanding the frequencies, amplitudes, and other aspects of the rotatory motion in the machines. There are also different levels for the technicians regarding the knowledge and skills of condition-based maintenance.
These levels are four in total, set by the ISO and these standards are categorized like this. The first level technician in the one who has just started taking measurements. The second level technician doesn t solve complex vibration analysis problems but is familiar with the simple vibration analysis techniques. The third level person is the one who is programs manager and solves those complex problems. The final level technicians are the champions who understand the vibration analysis very deeply. They can easily handle the motion of those big monstrous machines that amaze everyone who looks at them.
But the right way to is to not only understand the information about the plants that you are provided, you have to understand the applications of that knowledge as well because that is what s going to improve your skills. When you know the meaning of failure data, information provided by the technicians, and use it to masterfully overcome the complex problems in your plant that is when you become an expert in the vibration analysis. Even if you re just a beginner in the vibration analysis programs, you just have to make most of the education and training that you are being given because everything starts from somewhere and then gets better with time.
In predictive maintenance, you have to understand the patterns very carefully. You have got to know about the spectrum, how the spectrum is happened to come into the view and what those values or peaks mean in that plot. If the spectrum is not enough to make a decision, then what to look for next waveforms or phase readings that will help you learn more about the vibration analysis and Mobius Institute helps you greatly in this endeavor.
